The Final Girl

By the end of the film, the Final Girl has gone from a suburbanite to an outlaw. She is caked in blood, hair darkened and 'wild', headband or armband on. She might even have an eagle-like bird freshly branded on her stomach like Jen in Revenge (2017). If the film wants to be a franchise, it'll send the Final Girl back to suburbia for her 'happy ending', like Sidney in the Scream franchise. The Final Girl is a stand-in for the wild, mad, queer, murderous Native woman of the settler colonialism imaginary.

This blog will be dedicated to my academic ramblings about this and other things that I obsess about and write about in relation to Indigenous people, settler colonialism, and the horror and gothic genres of film and literature. My purpose, above all, is to dismantle tropes and support Indigenous feminist and queer storytelling and filmmaking.
